About the Ortega Family

In the early morning hours of March 13, 2012, 8-year old Ahliyah Irvin was abducted from her home while her family slept and was brutally murdered. It has been four years since the trial has ended and the Topeka community has started to heal but for the family time has stood still until recently.

Nothing we as a community can do can erase the pain and terror with losing a child, but this home will, at the very least, allow her safe and affordable shelter every night. It will continue to further Habitat’s mission of building homes, communities and hope. And, for the Ortega family, hope is the greatest gift of all.
